Planned Parenthood of the Heartland, Inc. v. Hilgers
Plaintiffs claimed that Nebraska’s 12-week abortion ban violates the state constitution’s prohibition on bills that contain more than one subject (Art. III, § 14) because L.B. 574 contains both an abortion ban and restrictions on gender-affirming care for transgender youths. A trial court granted the defendants’ motion to dismiss. The plaintiffs appealed the trial court’s decision. The state supreme court held that the bill did not violate the state constitution’s prohibition on bills that contain more than one subject because both issues relate to regulating healthcare.
